Pregnancy stretch marks may be a baby-making, child-bearing badge of honour but for some mamas, pregnancy stretch marks can leave them feeling a bit down about their body. Stretch marks are partly down to genetics, so if your mama had them, you may need to be extra vigilant about stretch mark protection.

Fortunately, at Mama Mio we have you covered. Whether you want to prevent stretch marks, remove stretch marks or you're simply just looking for pregnancy safe skincare, our Mama Marks Cream is perfect for any mama-to-be.

What are pregnancy stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the middle layer of your skin. Small tears in the dermis form vertically across the horizontal Langar's lines which span across your skin. Stretch marks appear red or purple as the tears in the dermis allow for the blood vessels below to become visible through the skin.

How do pregnancy stretch marks occur?

The dermis tears when your skin is not elastic enough to support the stretch of your growing bump. Elasticity in your skin is retained by Omegas 3, 6 and 9 which are fatty acids, essential for supporting collagen fibres in your skin.

During pregnancy, omegas are also required in the development of your baby's development of brain and eyes. So during a time when your skin needs omegas the most, your omega stores end up being spread a little thin.

What can I do to remove pregnancy stretch marks?

Don't let stretch marks get you down. If you do decide you need a helping hand in reducing the appearance of stretch marks there a few simple steps you can take to help reduce the appearance of pregnancy stretch marks.

Mama Marks is one of our very favourite products. Expertly formulated with highly effective peptides, fruit enzymes and nourishing oils, it’s clinically proven to help minimise the appearance, colour and texture of stretch marks caused by pregnancy and weight fluctuations.

How can I prevent pregnancy stretch marks from happening?

As with most things, prevention is more effective than removal. The earlier you begin your stretch mark prevention routine, the more you will be protected from developing stretch marks.

  1. Perfectly prepare skin by lightly exfoliating and smoothing skin of dead skin cells. Gently smooth your Tummy Rub Scrub over your bump then rinse under the shower for perfectly polished skin.
  2. Follow up with your Tummy Rub Butter or Tummy Rub Oil (or both!), allowing it to sink into the skin before dressing. For even better results, apply your Tummy Rub twice a day.
